Ai-Ai delas Alas, husband Gerald celebrate 5th anniversary
Award-winning actress and comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas and her husband, Gerald Sibayan, celebrated their 5th anniversary, proving wrong those who ever doubted their love for each other.
Before meeting Sibayan in 2014, Delas Alas had just gone through a turbulent experience with her ex-husband Jed Salang, who she sued and separated from a month into their marriage in 2013 for reportedly abusing her physically.
Delas Alas narrated the story of her first meeting with Sibayan on social media on Thursday, April 11, sharing he was introduced to her by her friend and badminton player Paulo.
Paulo wanted to introduce Sibayan, also a badminton player of the national team, to Delas Alas and made it happen through a badminton match. At the time, Delas Alas seemed wary.
“P***** ina, ano gagawin ko sa 20 [years old] leche (What am I going to do with a 20-year-old, f*** off)!” Delas Alas recalled as saying.

She, however, still went on to play badminton with Paulo and Sibayan.
“Chinito, cute, maitim, sabi ko sa sarili ko [nyek] hindi ko to type maitim, wala [akong] naging bofriend na maitim…” she said via Instagram.
(Chinese-looking, cute, dark. I told myself, nyek, he is not my type, I’ve never had a boyfriend who was dark.)
They apparently exchanged numbers after the game and by the next day, Sibayan sent her a good morning text.
“Yun na at… at dito tayo nauwi sa kasalan I love you darl and sa video na to napatunayan ko mahal na mahal mo pala ako talaga,” she said. “HAPPY 5th year anniversary asawa ko mahal na mahal kita.”
(So there… and here we are today, finally married. I love you darling and in this video, I’ve proven that you really do love me. Happy 5th anniversary, husband, I love you very much.)
Delas Alas and Sibayan tied the knot in December 2017 at the Christ the King Parish in Quezon City after four years of being together. They marked their “58th monthsary” as a couple last February. In the same month, Delas Alas shared that she and Sibayan are planning to try for a baby in 2020.
The 54-year-old Delas Alas is almost 30 years Sibayan’s senior, who is 25 years old. She, however, believes she can still get pregnant the natural way. She is also looking into medical procedures like in vitro fertilization should a natural pregnancy not work out for them.
“Just look at Janet Jackson who had just given birth at 50,” she said then. “If we can’t do it the normal way, then we will turn to science for help.”
And if in vitro fertilization still does not work, Delas Alas quipped that joining the fertility dance ritual in Obando is a possibility. /ra
