Director Erik Matti comforts Liza Soberano after dropping ‘Darna’

Erik Matti comforted Liza Soberano after she withdrew from her movie project “Darna.”

ABS-CBN announced on Thursday that the Kapamilya actress dropped the title role, citing medical reasons.

Matti, who also dropped the project as director back in October, said he was “surprised” that the actress bowed out as the iconic Filipino superheroine. This he wrote in a Facebook post Friday.

“Surprised to hear about @lizasoberano letting go of #Darna,” Matti wrote. “You would have been great for the part. I wish you all the best.” 

“Definitely, there’s life after Darna. Take care always, Hope. Don’t cry no more,” he added.

Previously, “Darna” director Jerrold Tarog also expressed his sadness about Soberano’s departure from the movie, but acknowledged that her health is more important.

ABS-CBN and Star Cinema said that they have started the selection process for Soberano’s replacement, who will bring Darna to life on the big screen.  /ra
