Ethel Booba took a jab at members of the Cayetano clan running for office in Taguig.
Lani Cayetano, who is gunning for the position of Taguig City 2nd District representative, was quoted during a campaign rally on Friday, March 29 as saying, “Hindi po namin ibibigay ang Taguig.” (We will not give up Taguig.)
Ethel quipped on Saturday, March 30 in a tweet, “Nakaregister na ata sa kanila yan as family business. Charot!” (It seems [Taguig] has been registered [in their name] as a family business.)
Lani, who is currently mayor of Taguig, seeks to fill the position her sister-in-law Pia Cayetano currently holds. Meanwhile, Pia is running for senator.
Pia’s brother, Lino Cayetano hopes to replace Lani as mayor. He is the incumbent Taguig 2nd district representative.
Lani’s husband, former foreign secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, is also running for the House of Representatives in the 1st district of Taguig.
A petition has been filed to the Commission on Elections to nullify Alan Peter and Lani’s certificates of candidacy (COCs) for “dynastic expansion.”
INQUIRER.net has reached out to the Mayor’s Office in Taguig several times today but has been repeatedly told that no one is available to comment.
The Cayetanos have previously expressed their openness to political dynasties. Alan Peter claimed last October that a married couple running in two separate districts is “not unique, and it’s completely legal and moral.”
He also insisted during a rally last Friday, March 29, that political dynasties in the country do not exist because there is a democracy: “You cannot have democracy and then keep saying there are political dynasties.”
“Right now we are still coming to the people for them to choose us as their leaders. What is important is that there [are] fair and open elections,” he was quoted in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report on Saturday, March 30.

She shared again yesterday a 2017 tweet where she proposed taxing politicians with family members in government posts.
Isulong natin na lagyan ng TAX ang mga politiko dahil ginagawa na din naman nilang family business ang politika. Charot!
