Kapamilya singer-actor Marlo Mortel flew to Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, recently where he performed at the municipality’s 68th founding anniversary celebration at the town plaza.
An incident left Mortel feeling “scared,” however, prompting the promising singer to post a video of a drunk man interrupting his performance on stage.
Mortel shared the video via Instagram on March 28. In the video, Mortel can be seen on stage singing a rendition of Jroa’s “Di Ako F*ckboy” while a fan attempted to take a selfie with him. Suddenly, a man walked on stage to join the picture taking.
As Mortel was uttering a polite “hello po” in the middle of his performance, a police officer and one of the organizers stepped in to escort the man off the stage. The incident caused Mortel to pause from his singing as he stared after the man, looking unsure of what to do.
Mortel took the incident in stride and in a few seconds went back to singing, just like any professional singer would. He admitted in his post, however, that the incident left him feeling scared, and shared he was told the man was drunk.
“I’ve had a few wild encounters during shows but this time I actually got scared,” Mortel admitted. “I didn’t know how to react, we were told that he was drunk.”
Mortel added that as performers, they put themselves in a vulnerable situation every time they perform in public to make fans happy. Despite this, he maintained that performers are human too, and asked fans for some respect.
“As performers, we put ourselves in a vulnerable position every time we go out,” he said. “We genuinely want to make you guys happy but we do ask for a little bit of respect in return. Tao lang din po kami (We are also human).” /ra
