‘Basta mabuti kang tao’: Ogie Diaz cheers up daughter on not earning school honors
Ogie Diaz is proud of his eldest daughter Erin although she did not bag scholastic achievements like some of her classmates.
The comedian and talent manager shared a story of how he cheered up his daughter, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 27. Diaz also accompanied his post with photos of him and Erin during her school’s “Moving Up Day.”
A day before his daughter’s big day, Diaz narrated that Erin cried because she did not receive any school award. “Okay lang yan, nak. Basta hindi ka kulelat at alam mong ginawa mo naman ang best mo,” he said to comfort her.
(It’s okay, my child. It’s enough that you did your best and you did not fail your subjects.)
“[Di] baleng walang awards or honors, basta hindi babagsak, at hindi sakit ng ulo ng lipunan, mabuti kang tao, happy na kami ng mama nila.”
“May anak ka din ba dito, Ogie?”-“Opo, mami.”“With honors?”-“Wala po, mami.”“Ah, ako yung apo ko,…
(It does not matter if you do not have awards or honors, as long as you do not fail in school and you are not a menace to society. As long as you are a good person, your mother and I are happy.)
While being openly gay, Diaz is father to five daughters with his partner Georgette del Rosario.
He then shared his and Erin’s conversation, where she told him that her classmates find him “cool,” since he does not pressure her to go for school awards.
Diaz also asked Erin if she would want to pursue college.
“Magka-college ako, (I will go to college), daddy,” Erin said. In reply, he said, “Okay. If that will make you happy, [I] will support you all the way.”
Congratulations, Erin! JB
