That is why he wants to bring his comedic talents to the big screen with this movie, Papa Pogi. This has become a dream come true for Teddy Corpuz to finally have a lead role in a comedy movie. And, he promises to deliver the laughs to the moviegoers.

“What makes our movie special is all of us, the cast’s amazing wit, comedic timing and talent, plus samahan mo pa ng baliw na script. We believe na maganda ‘yung movie na ‘to na steady laughter trip na magugustuhan ng madlang people,” says Teddy, It’s Showtime host and vocalist of the band Rocksteddy.

Meanwhile, Papa Pogi’s trailer has garnered 9 million views and still counting, which indicates netizens are intrigued and amused by the movie’s premise.

The comedy film presents to us the concept that while we all want love, looking for someone we want to spend out life with is not an easy task.

“Sabihin na natin talaga na wala sa looks kapag naiin-love ka, bagay sa akin ‘yung role kasi hindi naman ako kagandahan nain-love sa akin si Romeo (Teddy Corpuz’s character). Nagpapasalamat ako naging bida ako sa film dahil gusto ko talaga magpatawa. Sana bigyan nila ako ng chance,” The Funny One Grand Champion Donna Cariaga describes her first leading lady role.

And sometimes, there are choices that we have to make towards finding love.

“You do crazy things in the name of love and ganoon si Helena. Hindi s’ya ‘yung tipo ng character na magsasabi ng joke tapos matatawa ka, but she will make you laugh kasi lahat tayo makaka-relate because all of us can do unintentionally funny things when you are in love, and heartbroken,” Myrtle Sarrosa explains.

The funny question is: Pangit is the new pogi nga ba? Are we ready to make a choice that we won’t regret afterwards?

This is the premise of the latest comedy movie by Regal, and which stars Teddy Corpuz, Donna Cariaga, and Myrtle Sarrosa.

“Sa pelikula, isinumpa ang pamilya nila Joey Marquez ng isang chaka girl, na magkaka-anak sila ng puro pangit kapag nag-asawa sila ng magagandang babae. Ang inaasahan lang ng pamilya na makakaputol ng sumpa ay si Teddy, na kailangan makapag-asawa ng chaka girl, ang character ni Donna Cariaga,” Direk Alex Calleja explains.

Teddy Corpuz plays Romeo, a wealthy and confident not-so-good-looking guy, who is looking for the woman he will spend the rest of his life with. While he seriously contemplates on finding the right girl, he does not pay attention to Venus (Donna Cariaga), her secretary, who is secretly madly in love with him.

Eventually, Romeo meets Helena (Myrtle Sarrosa), a beautiful and attractive woman, who gets employed as Romeo’s secretary after Venus disappears. In the course of events, Romeo realizes that he needs to choose between Venus, a woman who has been loving him for a long time, and Helena, the woman whom Romeo holds his affection to.

Who will he choose? And what will his basis be in choosing the right love? Mapuputol na nga ba ang sumpa ng Papa Pogi?

Apart from Teddy Corpuz, Donna Cariaga, and Myrtle Sarrosa, the movie also stars Joey Marquez, Lassy, Nonong Ballinan, Dawn Chang, Hashtags members Nikko Natividad, Zeus Collins, and Luke Conde.

The film also marks a number of firsts: this is Teddy’s and Donna’s first lead roles in a film; it is also the first directorial job of Alex Calleja, who is known as a stand-up comedian, host, actor, former creative consultant of It’s Showtime, writes for Goin’ Bulilit, Funny Ka Pare Ko. He is also one of the radio jocks of Boys Night Out in Magic 89.9.

The multi-talented Alex Calleja won awards internationally 1st-runner up Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in the World 2016 and Best Stand-Up Comedian Aliw Awards 2017 which made him the best choice to do the first comedy film of Regal for 2019.

Alex Calleja understands what makes people laugh, he knows what is funny, and he understands what it means to make a movie truly entertaining because he himself is a person who is born with a “funny bone”. He can make jokes on the spot, he sees the humor in everyday life, he chooses to make people laugh rather than have them focus on their problems and issues they are facing. Alex Calleja in many ways is using his comedic talents, comedic timing and, most of all, his comedic genius to entertain the masses. Papa Pogi under his direction is already an assurance that this movie will make everyone laugh, enjoy and have a good time. Now, isn’t that well worth the price of a movie ticket ? It sure is, man !

Teddy Corpuz also composed and performed the theme song of this movie.

Papa Pogi will be shown in cinemas nationwide on March 20, 2019.
