What makes ‘The General’s Daughter’ a must-see drama this 2019
MANILA, Philippines — Action-adventure series “The General’s Daughter” starring Angel Locsin has been dubbed as the “biggest teleserye” this year and one of its directors Manny Palo explained why.
“To gather such a roster na ganito kalaki, ganito kahusay in one teleserye says it all kung gaano siya kalaki,” Palo said during the teleserye’s press conference early this week.
The director was referring to the series’ powerhouse cast which includes veteran actors like Tirso Cruz III, Albert Martinez, Maricel Soriano, Eula Valdez and Janice de Belen.
“These characters are fully fleshed out at binigyan talaga ng justice ng mga artista,” he added.
Joining the roster of stars are Ryza Cenon, Paulo Avelino, Arjo Atayde, JC De Vera and the breakout love team of Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte dubbed as “LoiNie.”
Apart from the grand slam of actors, Palo explained the large-scale production action-adventure drama is made of.
“We dished out everything to give an element of surprise every day. Ang lalaki ng eksena. May mga eksena sa ere, sa lupa, sa ilalim ng tubig,” Palo said. “Maniwala kayo may mga underwater scenes kami. May eroplano, may helikopter, may barko.”
While the actors and the large-scale production contribute to the reasons why it is dubbed as the “biggest teleserye,” Palo boasted that the story remains to be the show’s highlight.
“At syempre, ang nagpapalaki naman sa teleserye hindi ‘yung mga ganitong kalalaking eksena eh. Ku’ndi yung kwento mismo. ‘Yung kwento talaga ang bida,” he said.
Further, the director said, “It’s not just a military drama. The military component is just a milieu pero at the core of the narrative is still a very strong female character torn between two warring families.”
The Kapamilya network’s first offering for 2019 tells the story of Rhian Bonifacio (Locsin), a daughter of a respected military general who grows up trying to get the affection of her parents.
Directed by Palo and Mervyn Brondial, “The General’s Daughter” is set to air on ABS-CBN on January 21, 2019. /muf
