Vice Ganda recalled a funny experience at the airport, apparently in Manila, which he shared during the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” segment on “It’s Showtime” on Jan. 14, after a singing contestant called him “sir” and “ma’am” at the same time.
The show’s main host said he was also called “sir” in the airport earlier that day.
Vice Ganda asked the contestant whether she worked at a bank, and she answered, “Hindi po, sir, ah, ma’am po.”
“Sir?! Ang ikli nga ng shorts!” quipped co-host Vhong Navarro, pointing at Vice Ganda’s short shorts.
“Parang kanina sa eroplano nanggigil ako sa flight attendant, kasi pag buma-biyahe ako, hindi ito ang buhok ko, blonde na mahaba,” Vice Ganda began.
As per Vice Ganda, he wears a long blonde wig, thick makeup and a short outfit whenever he travels because he likes being “papansin” to foreigners.
“Kasi papansin ako sa foreigner kaya blonde na mahaba, tapos ang kapal ng makeup ko, naka-lipstick ako, tapos ang iksi ng damit ko. Tapos, tinawag ako ‘sir,’” Vice Ganda said of the flight attendant.
“Sabi ko, ‘Sige sabihin mo sa’kin anong bahagi ng itsura ko ang ka sir-sir, sabihin mo sakin kung ano pang bahagi ng itsura ko ang mukhang lalake para mabago ko.’”
The flight attendant’s answer?
“Sabi niya, ‘Ay sorry po sir,’” Vice Ganda said, eliciting laughter from his co-hosts and the audience. “Ang init talaga ng ulo ko, buti nalang mabait yung flight attendant, kaya okay naman, napatawad ko naman siya.”
Vice Ganda has spoken about the struggles he has to endure as a cross-dressing gay man. He shared on “It’s Showtime” last October 2018 that choosing which public restroom to use is a difficulty in itself. He said then that men often think suspiciously of him whenever he uses the male restroom, whereas he cannot use the female restroom because some women also complain.
There was more to his saga, however. Apart from being a called “sir” by the flight attendant, Vice Ganda further shared that he was also offered a wheelchair by one of the airport workers upon exiting the plane.
“Lumabas na ko, ang daming tao, siguro alam nilang flight namin yun andaming nag-aabang… Diba may nag-tatrabaho, yung mga nag-aassist ng pasahero? Sabi sakin ng isa, ‘Vice, Vice, wheelchair?’”
Seemingly fed up, Vice Ganda turned to the contestant and said, “Pinapahiram ako ng wheelchair, so ano ako senior citizen? Inalok ako ng wheelchair. Mukha na ba akong mahina, uugud-ugod, may karamdaman at nangangailangan ng medikal na tulong?” /ra
