When it comes to people’s opinions, singer KZ Tandingan knows better to give precedence only to those whose sentiments matter the most to her. Tandingan recently took to social media where she imparted some wisdom to her 190,000-strong fans about a thing or two when it comes to criticism.
“People will always have something to say about you, about your craft. Pero remember to only listen to people whose opinions matter sa ginagawa mo (on what you are doing),” Tandingan wrote on Dec. 16. “In this social media age, people think because they’re entitled to their own opinion that they’re also entitled to hurt people.”

She advised her fans to not let other people’s words bring them down, especially if their opinions are not made to help, but to spite. Personally, she would rather listen to the opinions of those who have actual knowledge on the technicalities behind her style as a singer, as compared to those who just talk to make noise.
“Ako I personally give more weight to the opinions of musicians than some people I know know nothing about the technicalities behind what I do,” she shared. “Totoo yung ‘ANG DAMING KUMUKUDA PERO KONTI LANG MAY ALAM.'”
(It’s true — so many people keep on talking but only so few know anything.)

Tandingan also advised her fans to be discerning in listening only to opinions that would help them learn and grow.
“Ask yourself lagi bago mo namnamin ang opinyon ng ibang tao-nakakatulong ba sayo? May basehan ba ang sinasabi nila? Kung hindi ang sagot. Block mo na. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life,” she said.
(Ask yourself always, before you take in the opinion of others: is it helping you? Does what they say have a basis? If the answer is no, block them. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life.)

At the end of the day, however, Tandingan urged her fans to do what truly makes them happy: “Do what makes you happy, what feels true to your core, wag magpa apekto sa mga taong walang alam sa ginagawa mo pero ang daming sinasabi.”
(Do not allow yourself to be affected by people who know nothing about what you do but say a lot of things.)

She added, “Don’t let their meaningless opinions weigh you down in soaring into your dreams.” JB
