Raising one’s children is not a walk in the park for most parents. Actress Marjorie Barretto believes that both mothers and daughters must work hard to maintain a smooth sailing relationship between them.

For the third episode of her Instagram TV channel, Julia invited her mother for a nine-minute interview yesterday, Dec. 16. Apparently, Julia is both the naughtiest, when she is playing tricks to her siblings, and the most obedient among Barretto’s children.

The mother of five described Julia as “super malambing” (affectionate) and sweet. She divulged that Julia will always drop by her room whenever she goes home to check on her mother and tell her everything that happened during the day.

“When I was born, what did you picture out or hoped for me when I grow up?” Julia asked her mother.

“Well, I think early on I knew and you really established that, while you were young, that you wanted to be an actress,” Marjorie replied. “So I guess you really are where you’re supposed to be. And you’re really blessed Jul, because some people take their like late 20s late 30s and you got it at age 16 and 17.”

The proud mother praised how hardworking Julia is. She also said she pitied her daughter whenever she has to wake her up.

“It’s my job to keep you sane in this crazy industry that you’re in,” Marjorie said, explaining the most challenging part of being a mother to the young actress. “I feel like I have to, I’m the only one who can really guide you, protect you and remind you to keep grounded.”

“When you saw me getting hurt, how did it affect you as a mother?” inquired Julia. Marjorie responded: “It affected me so much because if it happened to me, I would know how to solve it. But since it’s not me, I can only watch you get hurt.”

For Barretto, the successful mother and daughter relationship with Julia was a result of both of them trying to make it work.

“It takes two,” Barretto advised daughters. “You also have to be a good daughter. You cannot expect [for] a great mom and then you’re giving your mom a hard time. It works both ways.”

“You have to be a good daughter also,” she added. “You have to allow your mother to guide you and believe that they only have good intentions for you so they’ll never advise you wrong.”

“So be a good daughter,” she stated. “Obey. Be more open. Wag kang palasagot. Wag kang kumontra. (Don’t talk back. Don’t oppose.) Just listen.” JB
