Actresses and good friends Carmina Villaroel, Aiko Melendez, Gelli de Belen and Candy Pangilinan found themselves in an animated discussion over the proper pronunciation of Filipino delicacy kutsinta. The discourse was shared on social media by Pangilinan Friday, Dec. 14, and showed the four friends sitting around a table after a meal while at their recent weekend getaway.

“Hi guys may issue kami ngayon, malaki po issue namin,” Pangilinan said on Instagram. “So ano ba ang tamang pronunciation? Kuntsinta, kutsinta or kutsita?”

Villaroel shared that she and Melendez grew up calling the beloved rice snack “kuntsinta” with two letter N’s.

“Pareho kami kuntsinta,” said Villaroel. “Ano po ba? Kasi ang kinalakihan namin kuntsinta.”

De Belen, meanwhile, said she pronounces the rice cake as “kutsinta.”

“May N? Walang N?” asked a confused Villaroel.

“Kutsinta!” De Belen clarified.

“Ah, tayo kasi kuntstinta,” Villaroel replied, referring to Melendez. “Ano ba talaga?”

“Hindi, may N pa rin yung s’akin, sa inta,” explained De Belen. “Kutsinta!”

Pangilinan agreed that everybody pronounces theirs with the letter N. “Oo, may N dun, lahat tayo meron eh,” she said. “Eto kuntsinta, may N rin sila run eh… Isa lang N namin pero meron tayong T. Kutsinta.”

“Hindi nga kami T! N nga kami!” quipped a seemingly exasperated Villaroel.

Meanwhile, fans of the actresses took to the comments section and shared how they pronounce the rice cake, with the majority saying “kutsinta” just like De Belen and Pangilinan.
