Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Saturday advised critics offended by the ABS-CBN series “Ang Probinsyano” not to watch the show, saying it was just pure “fiction.”

Yan fiction yan eh,” he said in a interview with AM radio station DWIZ.

[First of all, if they’re offended by ‘Ang Probinsyano,’ then they shouldn’t watch it. That’s just fiction.]

Earlier, Director General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), told reporters that the show was “unfair” and gave a “bad impression” of the organization.

Trillanes also took issue with the plan of the PNP to manipulate the show’s script, likening it to censorship under martial law.

“Censorship ang gagawin nila. Bawal yan. Aba, martial law tayo niyan,” he said.

[What they want to do is censorship. That’s forbidden. They want to force changes in the script? Can you imagine a movie or a TV series being made with the government meddling? That’s like being under martial law.]

Trillanes also claimed that many police officers and military troops enjoyed watching the show.

“Maraming pulis at sundalo ang sumusubaybay dyan,” he said.

[Many police officers and soldiers follow that series. They want to watch that — not because it reflects what’s happening in real life but because it’s entertainment. Our countrymen who are having a hard life just want some moments of happiness. Why meddle with that?] /atm
