Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde recently cried foul over ABS-CBN’s “Ang Probinsyano,” which is top-billed by Coco Martin. As per Albayalde on Nov. 14, the series gives a “bad impression” of police officers and promotes the idea of instant justice, a consequence, it seems, that he found unfair since it does not happen in the police force.
The people behind “Ang Probinsyano,” on their end, have since assured the PNP that the elements of the show are purely fictitious. They also added that the show has portrayed its main character, SPO2 Ricardo “Cardo” Dalisay, as a hardworking police officer dedicated to saving lives and serving his fellowmen. Meanwhile, Martin echoed the network’s statement and reiterated the disclaimer shown at the start of the series. He also asked pardon from the police.
Actress Jasmine Curtis, however, seems to have a different opinion regarding the PNP’s reaction to the series. Curtis took to her Twitter yesterday, Oct. 15, and shared a report regarding the issue.
“First was Goyo and a politician. Now it’s a TV series and the PNP,” wrote Curtis. “Authorities want tv and film to show ‘better’ things about them…… Hah.”
There is much truth in Curtis’ remarks. It was back in September that House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr. questioned Jerrold Tarog’s film “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” a biopic about Gen. Gregorio del Pilar,
Atienza claimed that the film portrayed Del Pilar and other Filipinos who fought in the Battle of Tirad Pass as “a bunch of cowards.” He now wants to authorize the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) to screen film scripts from now on, especially those with historical accounts, before production and distribution. /ra
