Tony Award-winning singer-actress Lea Salonga came to the defense of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez after the latter recently took to social media to justify her transfer to ABS-CBN network.
It was on Oct. 29 that Velasquez took to her Instagram to call on her bashers to stop insulting her, husband Ogie Alcasid and son Nate. She told them she only transferred networks and did not murder anybody, adding that she is grateful for the two decades she spent in GMA. Velasquez shared her post on her other social media accounts including Twitter.
Salonga took to Twitter on the same day, reaching out to Velasquez and giving her words of comfort.
“As a fan and a friend (and this was told to me by a fan to remind me of something I sometimes forget), tandaan mo: mas maraming nasa likod mo na sumusuporta sa iyo,” Salonga told Velasquez. “Yung mga ayaw sa iyo, hindi mo kawalan. Ang mga tunay na nagmamahal ay laging magmamahal sa iyo. xo.”

In another tweet, Salonga praised Velasquez, saying that she is one of the most sincere and real people in the entertainment industry–an industry that places importance on perception.
“I’ve known you long enough to know who you are,” Salonga told Velasquez. “You owe no one any explanations for the move to ABS.”

Salonga added that bashers do not truly know Velasquez. “Ang mga bashers, hindi nila alam ang totoong pagkatao mo.”
Salonga, too, reached out to Alcasid when the latter took to Twitter to air his grievances against all the bashing.
Alcais shared on Oct. 29 that it was hard for him to share his sentiments because of the hordes of bashers waiting to pounce on him.
“Saloobin. Parang minsan ang hirap maglabas ng pansariling saloobin sapagka’t marami ang nakaabang na bumatikos,” he said. “Kahit mas nakararami rin naman ang nakikisimpatya ang hirap minsan…”

Salonga told Alcasid that she knew what it feels like and told him to hang on.
“I feel you, my friend. Hang in there,” she comforted. “I’d recommend a round of golf, but not today.”

Velasquez, on the other hand, went the comedic route when she replied to her comedian husband’s tweet, asking, “Bakit honey mag pinagdadaanan ka ba??? Ano ba bagong chismis? I love you.”

It seems that when it comes to certain situations, laughter sometimes, if not most, is the best medicine. /ra
