Charliebebs Gohetia differentiated his latest “Class of 2018” film from the Japanese movie “Battle Royale.”

Director Gohetia said “Class of 2018,” which stars Nash Aguas and Sharlene San Pedro in their first starring movie roles, was inspired by “Battle Royale” and “The Hunger Games” wherein youths ended up killing one another. The main difference, however, is the addition of a deadly virus that forces Aguas and San Pedro to kill their former classmates, reports Push.

“Hindi siya Battle Royale-based kasi wala namang virus sa Battle Royale. Pero may comparison lang kasi based on the trailer,” remarked Gohetia. “Pero I think it’s more than that. Kasi doon nandun sila para magpatayan. Dito kasi wala silang choice kundi mag-survive.”

(It’s not based on “Battle Royale” because there was no virus on that film. But there are comparisons based on the trailer. But I think it’s more than that. Because in “Battle Royale” they were there to kill each other. Here [“Class of 2018”] they don’t have a choice.)

Meanwhile, Gohetia had good things to say about his two lead actors, especially since they weren’t originally cast for the roles. The director considered Aguas and San Pedro as good actors who just need opportunities to shine. He also remarked that San Pedro was easy to work with.

“Class of 2018” will open in theaters on Nov. 7. The trailer was released by T-REX Entertainment Oct. 7 through its Facebook page. San Pedro’s fans were initially surprised that she punched co-star Aguas. Director Gohetia later teased in an Oct. 7 tweet that she also punched a bunch of other people.  /ra>
