A lot of celebrities make use of their social media platforms to express either their support or disappointment for certain candidates of the upcoming 2019 midterm elections. Megastar Sharon Cuneta defended herself from a netizen who accused her of using her popularity to campaign her husband Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and her brother Cesar “Chet” Cuneta.

“Sharon… I don’t believe in you anymore,” commented Instagram user @marisse.santiago in one of Cuneta’s post yesterday, Oct. 20. “You are using your popularity for political reasons. Let the people think about the merits of your husband. Leave your brother and him alone in campaigning.”

Cuneta accompanied Chet in filing his certificate of candidacy for a mayoral bid on Oct. 12. She also publicly thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for supporting her brother’s candidacy. Meanwhile, she had always been beside her husband during his previous campaigns.

“Just eat the cookies and cream,” added the commenter who made reference to Cuneta’s ice cream advertisement. “Without popularity you will still be who you are now… Don’t cry over non-popularity.”

Cuneta, seeing the netizen’s comment, did not hold back in her response.

“We all have the right to let people know in whom and in what we believe,” she answered. “That is our prerogative. Artistas have been voicing out their opinions and supporting candidates they believe in for generations.”

“Omg if you don’t understand that, please sana alam mong (I hope you know) Kiko and my brother do speak for themselves,” Cuneta added.

Cuneta seemed to be baffled by what the netizen meant when she said, “Don’t cry over non-popularity,” when she had earlier pointed out that Cuneta was using her popularity for political reasons.

“And ano yung ‘don’t cry over non-popularity’?” asked Cuneta. “Di ko maintindihan kung sinasabi mong I’m using my popularity for what in your mind are wrong things or kung sinasabi mong wala na akong popularity.”

(What do you mean by “don’t cry over non-popularity?” I do not understand what you mean by that. Are you saying I am using my popularity for what in your mind are wrong things, or if you are saying that I am no longer popular.)

In response to her basher saying she doesn’t believe in Cuneta anymore, Cuneta said, “Thank you pala for that kasi I don’t like naman the people who believe in me to be people lang pala like you.”

(Thank you for that because I don’t like the people who believe in me to only be people like you.) JB
