The “Game of Thrones” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story” actress is to star opposite “Crazy Rich Asians” actor Henry Golding in a holiday season movie set in London.
Since breaking through in “Game of Thrones,” receiving three Emmy nominations and six Screen Actors Guild nods as a result, Emilia Clarke has gone on to appear in “Terminator Genisys,” smalltown romance “Me Before You,” and sci-fi spin-off “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
Now she is boarding a romantic comedy from writers Emma Thompson — yes, she who starred in “Love Actually,” adapted “Sense and Sensibility” and co-wrote “Bridget Jones’s Baby” — and the English performance artist and playwright Bryony Kimmings.
Paul Feig is directing, having helmed “A Simple Favor,” which saw Golding in support and began its international rollout last week.
Though that was a more serious crime drama, Feig is generally better known for comedies “Bridesmaids,” “Spy,” and “The Heat,” with “Last Christmas” itself being pitched as a romantic comedy.
Next up for Clarke is crime thriller “Above Suspicion” while Golding, surfing a wave of popularity following the blockbuster success of “Crazy Rich Asians,” has post-war Vietnam drama “Monsoon” in the works. NVG
