A posthumous video for Prince’s “Mary Don’t You Weep” has been released, tackling the issue of gun violence in the United States.
Filmed in New York, the video portrays the death of a young man. It opens by evoking the number of children killed by or treated for gunshot wounds in the U.S. and quotes a speech Prince made at his 2015 Rally 4 Peace performance in Baltimore. Protests erupted in the Maryland city that year following the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray.
“Mary Don’t You Weep” is taken from the album, “A Piano & a Microphone: 1983”, released Sept. 21. The song also features on the soundtrack to the movie, “BlacKkKlansman”, directed by Spike Lee, which opened in August in U.S. theaters.
Prince died April 21, 2016, at age 57. JB
