Kyla went through a lot of challenges before getting to where she is now. One of these was getting rejected for the 1990s kids’ comedy show “Ang TV”.
The “Queen of R&B” mentioned this trivia while guesting on the morning talkshow “Magandang Buhay”. She spoke about how she went through various challenges after winning “Tanghalan ng Kampeon” kids portion at age 12.
“Nag audition pa nga ako sa ‘Ang TV’ eh, di ako nakapasa. Dinaanan lang ako ng camera.”
(I even auditioned for “Ang TV” but I didn’t make the cut. The camera just passed me by.)
Kyla later mentioned getting rejected by recording companies multiple times. She explained how her father used to send out countless demo tapes before she finally got signed up with OctoArts EMI Philippines in 2000.
“Yung daddy ko kasi, mahilig magpasa yun ng demo tapes. Dati kasi (ganun). Ang daming beses akong na-reject ng mga recording companies.”
(My daddy was fond of sending out demo tapes. It’s like that then. I’ve been rejected a lot of times by recording companies.)
Kyla guested for the morning talk show to surprise “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant Elaine Duran who idolized her.

As one of the judges for “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and as a fellow singer, she also gave the budding artist some words of wisdom, to help her realize her dream of becoming a star.
Kyla said, “Dito sa industry na ‘to, you will be mocked, you will be laughed at, you will be judged. Pero tandaan mo na you are strong enough to live through it and thrive through it. Enjoy mo lang yung ride na ‘to. Importante kung ano ang ginagawa mo while waiting for your time to shine.”
