If there is one song President Rodrigo Duterte seems to like to sing, it may be the OPM classic “Ikaw” — and recently, Ruffa Gutierrez was one of the lucky ones the President serenaded with the said song.
Gutierrez, known to be a supporter of the President, shared clips of him singing via her Instagram Stories post yesterday, Aug. 15. At one point, the actress can even be heard singing along.
Apparently, Gutierrez and President Duterte were both at The Manila Hotel for a fundraising event for the children of Marawi.
President Duterte was not the only political personality present. In another one of her Instagram Stories, Gutierrez shared a photo of herself alongside Manila mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada and the current House of Representatives Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. She wrote “#peace” on the photo and added a dove sticker, as if in jest.
Gutierrez also uploaded an photo of herself and actress Phoemela Baranda together with the two former Presidents.
While some of her fans were happy with the photos, other followers didn’t share the same enthusiasm. One was surprised to find Arroyo and Estrada dining on the same table. Another appeared to be unhappy with the photo.
“They have something in common!” one netizen commented. Another said: “Ang himala [dalawa] pinagla[sic] healthy na wala na sakit. Lang hiya naman talaga (It’s a miracle these two are healthy, they aren’t sick anymore. It’s so shameless).”
While there were commenters who pointed out the absurdity of having the two former Presidents in one table, some others expressed their dismay at the irony of the two leaders seating next to each other considering that both have been charged with plunder.
Arroyo was the Vice-President during Estrada’s administration. When Estrada was ousted from his seat, Arroyo served the remainder of his term before being elected herself as President for a second term. She granted executive clemency to Estrada in 2007. JB
