A short jumpscare ad for the upcoming horror film “The Nun” had been taken off from YouTube for being too shocking, as ruled by the site.

The six-second movie ad in question was brought to the attention of YouTube moderators through a post by Twitter user Apple (@bbydvas) on Aug. 13. Apple warned internet users about the particular intro of the jumpscare ad. Apple advised people to look away or mute their sound if they have anxiety or hate jumpscares when they see the telltale volume sign being turned down on top of a black screen.

YouTube moderators responded to Apple’s tweet on Aug. 14 and assured that the ad will no longer run. Apparently, the ad violated their content policy for being too shocking.

When perceived as a teaser, the ad doesn’t have as much effect since viewers can mentally prepare themselves for what they are about to see. YouTube user “wigstle.” saved a copy of the ad, viewable through this link, and uploaded on Aug. 12 for anyone curious, and brave enough, to view.

However as an advertisement, this movie ad for “The Nun” would appear at the front of YouTube videos with no warning as to what will be shown. Some people may think nothing of this, but it may prove problematic for others with anxiety issues.

“The Nun” is a spinoff of “The Conjuring” movie franchise. It features a demonic nun as its central figure. The film will open in American cinemas on Sept. 7. JB
