Robin Padilla thanks Joyce Bernal for directing Duterte’s Sona for free
Actor Robin Padilla gratified film director and good friend Joyce Bernal for offering her services to direct the upcoming State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, July 23.
In his Instagram post on Saturday, the actor gave the acclaimed director due credit for such a patriotic act. In his words, he said, “Kapag para sa INANGBAYAN hindi ka dapat BINABAYARAN.”
(If it is for the country, you should not be paid)
“Malalim na pagpupugay sa iyo binibining Joyce Bernal isa kang halimbawa at ilaw sa lahat sa aming nasa Industriya at rebolusyon! Mabuhay ka at ang ating panata!” he wrote.
(A deep honoring to you Ms. Joyce Bernal, you are an exemplar and light to us in the industry and revolution. Long live to you and to our vow)
He also inserted a particular provision of the Katipunan’s primer.
“”When these teachings shall have been propagated and the glorious sun of freedom begins to shine on these poor islands to enlighten a united race and people, then all the loves lost, all the struggle and sacrifices shall not have been in vain”- ika 14 na bilang sa kartilya ng Katipunan,” he added.
Padilla and Bernal have shared long years of friendship together. Bernal has directed some of Padilla’s most iconic films such as “10000 Hours”, “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw”, “Buhay Kamao”, “Pagdating ng Panahon” and “Tunay na tunay: Gets mo? Gets ko!”
Apart from their professional and personal friendship, the two also share the same passion to help the country. Not too long ago, Bernal together with Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual donated generous amounts for housing needs in the war-torn city of Marawi.
The three are also set to work together for a movie about the siege. /muf
