Ever since his record-breaking sleeper hit “Kita Kita,” comedian Empoy Marquez immediately rose to leading man status. Because of his new-found fame, he has amassed a huge following that has gone crazy over this generation’s “new pogi.” However, the deluge of love his fans have for him does not faze the simplicity Empoy has had through the years.
Unlike most celebrities with security personnel all over, the country’s funniest leading man still chooses to stroll out alone.
“Actually madalas ako mag-isa, mas gusto ko ‘yung nag-iisa, ‘yung mga tao nakakasalamuha ko, nakakabungguan ko, tapos magbubulungan sila, ‘uy mabango pala siya sa personal,” he said while throwing in a little joke at the media conference Tuesday for his newest film “Kusina Kings” which he top-bills with Kapamilya hunk Zanjoe Marudo.
(Actually, I’m often alone, I really choose to be alone. The people I come across with, those I bump into would whisper to each other and say, ‘oh he smells good in person).
Tagging along with his fame is his now inexplicable appeal to women. As they say, the fastest way to a woman’s heart is a funny man’s spirit. True enough, he has developed legions of female fans fancied over his funny antics.
Asked how he is now with girls, the ever funny Empoy joked, “Elementary palang ako ganto na’ko, walang pinagbago.”
(Since I was in elementary I was already like this [a chick magnet] nothing has changed)
A fruit of right project at the right timing, Empoy is now one of the most sought-after comedians of this generation.
Apart from shooting movie after movie, he is also part of ABS-CBN’s top-rating primetime series “Since I Found You.”
“Kusina Kings” is set to hit cinemas starting July 25. /muf
