“It is considered enlightening and therapeutic to think about death for a few minutes a day.”
The trailer of Anthony Bourdain’s final episode for “Parts Unknown” eerily revealed that the gourmand may have been thinking about death, the revelation made even more haunting and poignant as the preview was released by CNN, Bourdain’s home ground, just two weeks after his demise.
The final episode of the eleventh season of “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” aired on CNN this Sunday, June 24, at 9 p.m.
The preview showed the viewers just what to expect in Bourdain’s final episode, where he journeyed to the small Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan and immersed himself with the locals, such as the nomadic yak herders who lived high in the mountains.
In the preview, another person can be heard in the voice over, as the camera panned to a landscape of mountains in the Himalayas’ eastern edge. “You are reminded time and again not to take things too seriously,” said the person. “This is in fact an illusion, isn’t it?”
“Life is but a dream,” Bourdain answered back.
It is known that Bourdain was joined by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, the man behind “Black Swan” and “Requiem for a Dream”, for the said episode. They were shown at one point in the trailer drinking butter tea made of yak milk prepared inside a local’s home.
