Whether or not Ethel Booba prefers coffee over tea is unknown, but as far as her “mocha” is concerned, she has declared a preferred mix: with “sugar and creamer” and “never [with] ad hominem.”

For the unknowing, ad hominem is a logical fallacy wherein a person attacks an opponent’s character or personal traits to undermine the opponent’s argument. Familiarity with such logical fallacies doesn’t necessarily require a philosophy degree nor a 150 genius IQ. Critical thinking and discernment are free, after all.

And it appears that comedian Ethel Booba can attest to this, as she once again put on one of her many hats to act as Twitter court jester in the middle of the latest social media storm.

FEATURED STORIES

The past few days saw a rift between TV host and actress Kris Aquino and Mocha Uson, Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office. It’s a much talked about tiff that needs not repeating, if only the whole country didn’t seem to be quite affected by it. And yet, people across all political sides stood watch and gave their own take.

The squabble too did not miss the eyes and ears of Ethel as she took to her own Twitter page last June 6 to give her piece on the issue. But when all was said and done, all Ethel offered was a simple reminder.

Cyst, don’t be a peddler of hate kaya tuloy nagagalit sa’yo nya’n si Love Love Love. Charot!”

(Cyst, don’t be a peddler of hate, that’s why Love Love Love gets angry at you. Charot!)

While the comedian did not namedrop anyone, it may be gleaned that she could be referring to Uson as “cyst,” a possible wordplay on “sister”; as for “Love Love Love,” Booba could be referring to Aquino and the actress’ usual call for positivity in her social media pages.

Ethel’s tweet caught the attention of thousands of netizens, with one Twitter user, a certain Lloyd Jambaro (@JLCJambaro) replying to her yesterday to ask, “How do you love your Mocha?”

The question seemed easy to answer, to Ethel at least, as it appears she likes her mocha coffee plain and simple with not much add-ons: “I always add sugar and creamer, but never ad hominem. Charot!”

Of course, personal tastes may vary. How do you like your mocha? JB
