K-pop boy group BTS continues their streak as they took home the Top Social Artist award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, Sunday night, May 20.

BTS also won the award last year, wherein they were able to break the six-year streak of American pop star, Justin Bieber.

“Thank you so much Billboard Music Awards for this precious award, two years in a row! And this time, we had a chance to think about what ‘social’ really means for us and some of our fans told us that our music really changed their lives,” RM, BTS’ leader, said as they accepted the award. “And now, we realize that our words truly carry weight, thanks to you guys. And ARMYs out there, you guys, your words keep us going and keep us striving!”

Park Jimin also took time to thank their fans, saying that the award is for their ARMYs, “This award is really for you guys, we sincerely thank you and love you!” Park added in Korean.

Along with BTS, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Shawn Mendes were also nominated for the award.

Making history at the BBMAs

Aside from the much-anticipated awards, BTS also performed at the awards show, making them the first ever K-pop group to ever do so.

The seven-member Korean boy band performed their newest single, “Fake Love” from their most recent album, “Love Yourself: Tear”.

Following the dark theme of the song, BTS donned a combination of leather jackets and pants, ripped jeans and harnesses.

The BTS ARMY made themselves known during the performance as their “fanchants” could be clearly heard throughout the performance. In fact, within the duration of the awards show, ARMYs have made their presence known, cheering for BTS at every chance they get.

Even host Kelly Clarkson, introducing their performance, acknowledged the group and its fans’ strong presence as she pulled out a pair of pink, over-the-top headphones, stating that she came prepared for the hype of the fans.

BTS released their third full-length album “Love Yourself: Tear” last May 18. JB
