Slipped or herniated discs occur when one of the soft gelatinous discs supporting the spinal bones (vertebrae) moves out of place. This condition usually occurs due to a weakened external layer of the spinal column coupled with physical activities like twisting or lifting heavy objects. People of advanced age may also experience having a slipped disc.

According to the scan, one of his spinal discs lightly went through the right side of his spinal column.

A slipped disc will normally cause pain and discomfort to a person. Someone with a slipped disc may even experience numbness on one side of the body because the slipped disc adds pressure to the nerves and muscles around it. Worst-case scenarios could lead to permanent nerve damage.

Ballesteros did not reveal how he got a slipped disc. Treatment for this condition recommends doing back strengthening exercises and physical therapy for minor cases. More serious cases will require surgery.

Meanwhile, the actor has gotten positive feedback for his latest movie, “My 2 Mommies.” The film has so far earned P34.5 million during its first five days in cinemas.

Directed by Eric Quizon, “My 2 Mommies” follows the characters of Ballesteros and co-star Solenn Heussaff in an extraordinary story of motherhood. An accidental affair with Heussaff led Ballesteros’ gay character to deal with being a father while continuing his current lifestyle. Their little girl in turn learns to cope with having two “mommies” and an unusual family life.  /ra
