With Mother’s Day still days away, Ogie Alcasid thought of surprising wife Regine Velasquez with a sentimental present.
Velasquez’s reaction was of surprise and then tears of joy in a video posted by Alcasid on Instagram—thanks to a new Shih Tzu puppy.
The new pet comfortably cuddled in Velasquez’ arms days after the songstress’ old dog George passed away.
Velasquez was evidently pained by the loss as she posted a number of pictures with the Shih Tzu.
“Goodbye George, thank you for loving me,” she wrote in a May 3 post.
Alcasid also shared, “Sad day for us as Wifey’s George has gone to heaven. Thank you for all the joyful years little one. We love you.”
Though George cannot be replaced, it seems Alcasid wanted to see his wife of seven years smile again with someone new to love.
Based on comments on his Instagram post, he even consulted Megastar Sharon Cuneta on where to find Shih Tzus—the actress herself is a dog-lover.
“Kagabi lang natin pinag-uusapan, ang bilis mo makahanap (We were just talking about this last night, you found one so quickly)!” said the overjoyed Cuneta.

Other stars like Iza Calzado, Jaya and Kyla also shared the love, with comedian Ai-Ai delas Alas commenting, “Naiiyak ako (This is making me cry).”

Velasquez is clearly enamored with her pup and has already posted photos of her, although she remains loyal to her old dog.
“I will always love my Georgey always. Meet Chanel,” she said. /ra
