Veteran talent manager Angeli Pangilinan assured that her husband, the Philippines’ Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, is doing well after his open-heart surgery.
In a Twitter post on May 7, Pangilinan said: “I want to reassure every1 that Gary is amazingly okay defying diabetes statistics. Only 1 vessel was blocked the main left coronary artery but every other blood vessel was healthy after 39 years of diabetes. It was an open heart surgery so they cracked his ribs!”
A reliable source close to the family also said that the singer underwent successful surgery but the procedure won’t allow Valenciano to return to stage immediately. He needs time to rest but will definitely be back to performing as soon as he completely recovers.
The singer/actor has been suffering from diabetes for most of his life. However, he had been a living witness that having diabetes need not hamper anyone’s life. Much so, constantly maintaining a healthy lifestyle would lessen the complications brought about by the condition.
In an open letter he wrote just before his open heart surgery, the 53-year-old singer revealed how he “felt a sensation [he] never felt before” after his dance performance with son Gabriel for his 35th anniversary concert last April.
The series of tests done revealed two things: one is that he had strong heart. For a Type 1 diabetic person, even his doctors were amazed at how a majority of his heart is in excellent condition. However, the one exception is his main valve, “my left anterior descending artery (LAD) is 95 percent blocked and now has very thin walls, because of diabetes.”
His emergency surgery came as a surprise to the public as apart from being a total performer with show-stopping dance moves, he is physically active as well.
Hence, he apologized for the commitments he won’t be able to fulfill for the moment because of his condition. He, however, gave assurance that he will get back on stage once everything is okay as he asked his fans to pray for his speedy recovery. /muf
