Anne Curtis was triumphant in conquering the Herculean task that is the London Marathon last April 22, where she participated for a cause she holds dear.
This is her second time running in a major international marathon, and she finished the 42-kilometer course clocking in 5 hours and 12 minutes. It’s no walk in the park, truly, but Curtis’ was more than determined to succeed because her participation in the London Marathon is part of her fundraising initiative, in partnership with UNICEF Philippines.
Two days ago, Curtis shared via Instagram the good news to her fans: that she has reached 603 percent more than her targeted amount. She also added that she will be matching the donations, for a total of about P1 million.
“Thank you to everyone that donated. As promised, I shall match this amount for a total of 1,014,498.00 PESOS (Thank you sa mga nag last minute donation). We reached 603 percent more than my target and I have all of YOU to thank,” wrote Curtis in gratitude.
Curtis was initially hoping to raise P84,000 for UNICEF, but the unprecedented waves of support that came her way was something she did not expect.
As Curtis stated, the funds will be donated to the children of Marawi. The actress-TV host said that seeing photos of a site visit to the war-torn city was what made her raise funds for them.
“Maraming salamat po (Thank you so much)… but the true winners here are the children of Marawi,” shared Curtis. “I was able to see photos from the Country Representative of @unicefphils Ms. Lotta Sylwander when she did a site visit and that led me to dedicate and fundraise for them.”
Curtis also mentioned how the aftermath of the war in Marawi has greatly affected the children’s lives: “Their families have been displaced, some don’t have access to basic social needs such as education and health care.”
And although Curtis admits that her donation is just a small amount, she believes any kind of help goes a long way. “Albeit, this may be a small amount compared to what needs to be done but as I say, any help can go a long way. My sincere gratitude to all of you!” Curtis wrote. “Till the next one? THANK YOU a million times.” JB
