An official trailer has released for Lionsgate’s upcoming sci-fi movie “Kin”, starring James Franco along with Zoë Kravitz and Jack Reynor. The film opens Aug. 31 in the United States.
Lionsgate bought the movie rights for “Kin,” which is directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker, for $20 million at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
The plot centers on an ex-con, played by Jack Reynor, who has recently been released from jail, and his younger adopted brother (Myles Truitt). When they are targeted by a vengeful criminal (James Franco) and federal agents, the pair are forced to flee. While on the run, the brothers find a mysterious weapon with mystical powers.
Zoë Kravitz plays a trusted ally of the brothers, and Dennis Quaid plays their father.
Anyone thinking this explosive trailer has a slightly “Stranger Things” vibe will notice that the TV show’s producers, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, also served as producers on “Kin”.
This action movie is the first full-length feature from the Baker brothers. The screenplay, written by Daniel Casey, is based on their short film “Bag Man”. JB
