WATCH: Paolo Ballesteros, Martin del Rosario charm as tandem in ‘Born Beautiful’ teaser

“Born Beautiful”, the spin-off series based on the movie “Die Beautiful” finally has a teaser featuring Martin del Rosario as protagonist Barb.

Paolo Ballesteros is very much alive as transgender beauty queen Trisha, as he makes up Barb in a dressing room. The best friends banter before del Rosario’s grand reveal as the beautiful Barb.

Jun Robles Lana’s film “Die Beautiful” explores the life of Trisha after she suddenly dies in a beauty pageant. The movie was an entry at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.

In the movie, Christian Bables played Barb and bagged a best supporting actor award as he charmed audiences with his portrayal of the make-up artist for Barb’s dead BFF.

The success of the movie inspired the series “Born Beautiful” which Lana has said was written around Bables.

A now-deleted teaser featuring Bables in the lead role was even released, but production was forced to recast when he backed out due to a “management decision.”

Martin del Rosario was cast in the role and showed no bad blood with Bables as he tweeted, “Will do my best as your ‘successor.’”

Following the new teaser, some fans of the movie still clamored for the original Barb, but others welcomed del Rosario.

“I really think Martin del Rosario can pull [off] Barbs!!! But no one can beat barbs as much as Christian Bables,” said a netizen.

Another commented, “I’m excited for Martin del Rosario to prove to everyone that he can definitely do justice to Barbs’ role!”

A netizen told del Rosario on Twitter, “Ang ganda mo as Barbs.” (You’re beautiful as Barbs.)

For his part, the actor has worked hard to look the part, even undergoing a full body wax.

The series will premiere this 2018 through Cignal Entertainment. JB
