Tony Award-winning singer and actress Lea Salonga marked her return to Broadway last year when it was made known that she will star in the revival of the Ahrens and Flaherty musical, “Once On This Island”. The show debuted on Dec. 3, 2017, in Circle in the Square Theatre in Manhattan, New York City where it was continuously flocked by celebrities and Broadway stars alike to watch Salonga.
Salonga, on the other hand, was enlivened in her gratitude as she took to Instagram last night to share pictures of the stars who paid her a visit, one of which was Matthew Broderick, another Broadway legend.
Broderick is popularly known as the voice actor of adult Simba in “The Lion King” and the class-skipping charmer in the 1980s John Hughes classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He’s also the husband of Sarah Jessica Parker of “Sex and the City”.
Along with Broderick was actor and singer Steve Kazee and his friend Brad Goreski, a television personality and stylist. Salonga, Broderick and Kazee are all Tony Award winners, making them the true #squadgoals.
For Goreski, though, meeting Salonga was a dream come true. “I have been obsessed with @msleasalonga since I first heard her as Kim on the Miss Saigon soundtrack in 1989!” Goreski wrote. “Seeing her on stage last night was incredible! It was a dream come true meeting you Lea!”
Earlier this month, “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris also came to see Salonga, along with actor and professional chef David Burtka. Not to be missed, of course, was producer and director Kenny Ortega most known for his works such as the “High School Musical” trilogy and Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” documentary-concert film.
“We had some incredible talent come to the island tonight!” Salonga wrote in Jan. 13. “Thank you, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka and, Kenny Ortega!”
This doesn’t show, however, that Salonga didn’t receive any support from back home. Actresses Maja Salvador and Cacai Bautista made “Once On This Land” a part of their holiday itinerary, making sure to take pictures with Salonga after the show. JB
