Martin del Rosario has no qualms about portraying a role that was not originally meant for him. That’s how cool he is.

Directors Jun Lana and Perci Intalan (of Idea First Company) have tapped Martin to replace Christian Bables in the role of Barbs in Cignal Entertainment’s cable series, “Born Beautiful,” after Christian backed out of the project unceremoniously.

Jun and Perci are raving about Martin’s version of Barbs. Even if the role is associated with Christian (who won an award for it), Martin has enough panache to pull it off. Watch him go above and beyond the “call of beauty” in “Born Beautiful.”

FEATURED STORIES

Here’s my chat with Martin:

Do you feel any pressure to outdo Christian in your portrayal? Not really. Christian was superb, but I can give the role a different “color and flavor,” in the way I know how.

If you were Christian, would you beg off from the role that gave you your biggest break? I would have continued with the project, because I don’t want to waste the opportunity to give my acting career a push. If it’s management’s decision for me not to do the project (as in Christian’s case), we can talk things over and I will convince them to change their mind.

What’s the toughest part of portraying Barbs? It requires all kinds of emotions. The challenge is how to effectively play her to hit the audience bull’s-eye.

What do you find hard to understand about girls? Their being fickle-minded and oversensitive, at times.

What’s the craziest thing that you’ve done for love? I did the projects and assignments of my crush. Pandagdag pogi points (laughs).

What love advice do you follow? Keep it real. Never try to be someone you’re not. Once you accept her negative traits, that means you really love her.

What do you think of girls who make the first move? They’re cool. I could even fall for a girl like that.

How would you break up with a girlfriend? I don’t leave any loose ends or unresolved issues. I want us to part peacefully, because we might be given a second chance to patch things up in the future.

Which would you choose, box-office success or an acting award? An award. Box-office success is a blessing. That depends on a lot of factors, like promo, the lead stars’ popularity, etc. But an award is something I can call my own, so it’s more fulfilling.

How would you handle an indecent proposal? I won’t give the person false hopes. I will say no emphatically.
