It is now the daughter’s turn to defend her father.

Former actress Queenie Padilla took to Instagram to stand by her father Robin after he drew flak for his treatment of a Korean contestant, Kim Jiwan, on the talent show “Pilipinas Got Talent”.

Robin scolded the contestant on live television for not speaking Tagalog despite having lived in the country for years. His manner of reprimanding the young contestant was deemed rude and racist by critics.

Writing her defense of her dad via an Instagram post on Wednesday, Queenie remarked, “Calling my father a racist is wrong.” She pointed out that Kim had asked Robin “in an improper way” when the contestant said the words “Can I use you?”

Queenie stated that the contestant should have said, “Can you please help me?”

“I know Ji-Wan may have meant well and may have been nervous but I think that’s where my dad got offended,” she wrote. “That in itself is disrespectful whether or not my father is who he is, Ji-Wan is younger than him.”

“As for my father, the tone of my dad may have been harsh towards Ji-Wan but that’s the way my father is, even when he is disciplining us [his children],” Queenie explained.

“It’s not because my dad is hating on him, my dad just expected more from him since he grew up in the Philippines,” she added.

Ending her post, Padilla said that people should “define this situation [on] how it ended, not how it started.”

Earlier, the bad boy of Philippine showbiz was defended by his wife, actress and television host Mariel Rodriguez, saying that his love of country got the best of him. Robin himself refused to apologize and urged his countrymen to be patriotic. JB
