A 3D anime adaptation of the Japanese super hero manga “Ultraman” has been announced through a teaser trailer on YouTube.

The clip was uploaded on the channel of special effects studio Tsuburaya Production. According to the show’s website, the project will be a collaboration between animation house Production I.G. and Sola Digital Arts which specializes in creating computer-generated animation.

“Ultraman” initially aired in 1966 as a live-action super hero television show. It featured a humanoid giant, wearing a silver and red suit, who fights monsters to save the world.

In 2011, a manga adaptation by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi re-imagined Ultraman as a human-sized hero wearing a metallic Ultraman suit. The series will be based on this take of the classic hero.

Directors Kenji Kamiyama (“Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex”) and Shinji Aramaki (“Appleseed”, “Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars”) will be heading up the project.

The trailer states that the new “Ultraman” anime will be released on 2019. JB
