Hashtag Jon Lucas has voiced his support for Tom Doromal following the accidental death of fellow Hashtag Franco Hernandez.
The Hashtags are an all-male group that performs on noontime show “It’s Showtime.”
Hernandez, 26, died on Nov. 11 after drowning in a boating accident in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.
He and girlfriend Janica Nam Floresca were vacationing with Doromal in his family’s resort.
Floresca aired her side to the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) and suggested that more could have been done to rescue Hernandez.
After the story broke, Lucas shared on Facebook that he wanted his friend to feel his support.
The 22-year-old wished that there wouldn’t be so much judgment from those who weren’t part of the incident.
“Sana andon nalang tayo lahat sa pinangyarihan, para lahat tayo may alam… kaso wala tayo don lahat eh (If only we were all there where the incident happened so that we all know what transpired… but we all weren’t there).”
“Ang daming istorya eh… pero di pa natin naririnig lahat lahat! Nakakapanghusga na tayo (There are a lot of stories going around… but we haven’t heard everything, and yet we’re able to make a judgment)?”
“Ang sakit na mawalan ng kaibigan na mabait, tapos ngayon yung kaibigan mong mabait na buhay pa, parang kriminal na tingin niyo sakanya (It’s painful to lose a kind friend and now, another kind friend who is alive is being viewed as a criminal).”
‘Not blaming anyone’
Following her tell-all to PEP, Floresca shared a message on social media.
“This will be my first and last interview. I am not blaming anyone or anybody. I am just stating facts and sharing what happened during the incident.”
She also explained the timing of the interview. “I want (sic) to respect the solemnity of Franco’s wake and I was still in trauma of (sic) what happened.”
She said she only wanted to “correct false information and incorrect news” and that coming forward was “for Franco and his family.”
Her account of the events that transpired differ in key details. On “Umagang Kay Ganda,” Doromal said Hernandez was rushed to the hospital.
Floresca, however, said that he was brought to Doromal’s house because the hospital was too far away. A nurse, who is Doromal’s aunt, tried to revive Hernandez, she added.
Hernandez’ father, Raul Lumanlan, also claimed that the boat did not have life vests because Doromal had forgotten them.
This contradicts the two boatmen with them, who said the group had refused to wear the life vests.
Floresca stressed that she and Hernandez told Doromal that they didn’t know how to swim.
Lumanlan told PEP that they only wanted to “tell what really happened” and did not plan to file any legal investigation. Niña V. Guno /ra
