She is truly the dancing queen!
Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres has once more achieved another milestone in her career as she has just been hailed the champion of Univision’s “Mira Quien Baila (Look, Who’s Dancing)” contest in the United States.
She received a grand prize of $50,000 dollars, which would be given to her chosen charity – San Jorge Children’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of children in her native Puerto Rico.
The 43-year-old stunner also received the “Premio a la Más Vista” (Most Viewed Award) as three of her dance videos were recognized as the “most-watched” during this season of the dance reality competition.
The former beauty queen, who garnered millions of votes, won against finalist Ana Patricia, who won a consolation prize of $5,000, which would also to be given to her chosen charity.
As seen in a two-minute clip of the show uploaded on YouTube, the teary-eyed actress/singer was just obviously too overwhelmed at her win.
Another good thing to note is that her ex-husband, award-winning balladeer Marc Anthony, has been in full support of his ex-wife throughout her journey in the competition.
The day after her 43rd birthday last October 28, her two sons – Christian, 16, and Ryan, 14 – recorded with their father a birthday video greeting for her and show their support.
On the day of her big win, Torres even danced to Anthony’s steamy ballad “Hubo Alguien”. She is admittedly a big fan of her ex-husband’s music.
After her win in the Miss Universe, the Spanish mestiza stayed in the country and was able to establish a stellar career in the Philippine soil.
She was among the original hosts of the long-running Sunday noontime variety show, “ASAP”, and became popularly known as the “dancing queen” of the local entertainment industry. She even had her own dance segment called “Sayaw Nara”.
Torres was also able to make her mark as an actress through the iconic Star Cinema classic “Basta’t Kasama Kita” with ex-boyfriend Aga Muhlach, whom she had a four-year relationship with.
Among the other movies she made in the Philippines in the ’90s were “Hataw Na” and “Type Kita Walang Kokontra!”.
What made Filipinos more endeared to her is her fluency in speaking Tagalog which she still successfully showcased with her recent comeback just this year.
In her brief stay, she reclaimed the “ASAP” stage once more with a show-stopping dance number. /kga
