The official “A Wrinkle in Time” trailer introduces the young protagonist Meg Murry as she embarks on a journey across the universe to find and save her lost father.
The trailer for the Disney film also gave an explanation on the meaning behind the title.
As Meg explained it, in order to travel from point A to point B without crossing the space in between, one need only put a “wrinkle” in the space-time continuum.
Meg’s father had been looking for a way to cause this wrinkle before he disappeared. When he invented the tesseract for instantaneous travel between vast distances, he was captured by a dark force for his knowledge.
Three witches, played by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, tell Meg that the only way to save her father and defeat the darkness was for her to become a warrior for the light.
Traveling with Meg are her younger brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and friend Calvin O’Keefe (Levi Miller).
Disney based the movie off a classic science fantasy novel of the same name, written by American writer Madeleine L’Engle. The novel debuted in 1962 as the first in the “Time Quintet” series. Disney created an earlier movie adaptation of the franchise back in 2003 for television.
Meg and her fellow adventurers will wrinkle into movie theaters starting Mar. 9, 2018. JB
