James Reid snagged the MTV EMA Best SEA Act award, beating six other Southeast Asian artists for the recognition.

Votes were done online through MTV EMA’s website.

Reid, 24, made waves in 2017 when he released his album “Palm Dreams” under his own label Careless Music Manila. Hits like “Cool Down” and “Turning Up” showed that the actor had shifted his sound to R&B and House.

In a thank you video, he said, “I really think it’s a good opportunity to gain recognition around the world, especially the Philippines because I just started my own label and I really wanna help progress local music.”

The nominated acts were Faizal Tahir (Malaysia), Dam Vinh Hung (Vietnam), Isyana Sarasvati (Indonesia), James Reid (Philippines), Slot Machine (Thailand), The Sam Willows (Singapore) and lastly, the social wildcard winner voted by fans, Palitchoke Ayanaputra (Thailand).

This is Reid’s second nomination, the first being in 2015 when he released “Reid Alert”.

He has released music videos for “Cool Down” and “Turning Up”. Girlfriend Nadine Lustre features in both of them and is directing his next video for “The L1fe” with Petersen Vargas. JB
