A “Lord of the Rings” TV series may be produced by Amazon, and could rival current top fantasy series “Game of Thrones”.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. Television and the J.R.R. Tolkien estate are keen on having a TV adaptation of the late author’s “Lord of the Rings” novels.
Amazon currently stands as the top contender to pick up the show and produce it. This goes in line with CEO Jeff Bezos’ previous announcement about Amazon’s mandate to create something to match “Game of Thrones”.
On the other hand, Deadline reports that Netflix may also gun for LOTR. So far, no deal has been solidified and negotiations are still in the early stages. However, the price for the LOTR rights have been estimated to be around $200 million to $250 million. The rights may also be limited, which means not all characters may be covered. Alfred Bayle/JB
