Weezer has unveiled the latest track from its upcoming album, which, the band wrote, “like many cool Weezer songs has a sad message wrapped in a sunny package.”

Called “Happy Hour”, the track is indeed sunny, although it finds the band deviating from their usual sound.

In a note posted on Twitter, the band explained the story behind the song: “Sort of a companion piece to ‘Island in the Sun’ from 2001, but instead of being a pure fantasy about an escape, the guy in ‘Happy Hour’ is chained to reality, looking around for a break from the routine.”

The track was featured as a World Record on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show before being released worldwide. It is now available to stream or download via fanlink.to/weezerhappyhour.
