Moviegoers planning to watch the Japanese premiere of “Army of One” may not get the “Nicolasticks” promised with their pre-sold tickets.

According to a statement obtained by Munchies from Nicolas Cage’s representative, Japanese snack brand Riska who made the “Nicolasticks” did not have permission to put the actor’s face on their special edition Umaibo snacks.

Part of the statement reads, “Nicolas Cage is in no way engaged with an endorsement for the Japanese snack food brand Riska as recently reported in the news media. Mr. Cage had no prior knowledge that the product was being created, nor did he grant permission to use his likeness in this way.”

Riska meant to distribute “Nicolasticks” among pre-sold advanced movie ticket holders as part of the film’s promotion campaign.

The campaign came to Cage’s attention after various articles about the Umaibo “Nicolasticks” surfaced online.

While “Nicolasticks” were not meant to be sold in regular stores, Riska may need to have an arrangement with Cage for use of his face on their product. Otherwise, apologies may be in order towards ticket holders. Alfred Bayle/JB
