‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ gets horror treatment from ‘Riverdale’ makers in new series
The creators of the Archie Comics-inspired TV series “Riverdale” will be breathing life into another character from the comic franchise. Prepare for the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”.
This upcoming series was inspired by Archie Comics spinoff series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” which reimagines the young witch’s origin story “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”. This new series will be different from Melissa Joan Hart’s more lighthearted “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, where she played as teenage witch Sabrina Spellman. The new series will have more focus on topics pertaining to the occult, horror and witchcraft.
According to a statement by Archie Comics, the series’ horror aspects will be in the same vein as in classics “The Exorcist” and “Rosemary’s Baby”.
The story will follow Sabrina as she learns more about her heritage and come into to terms with being half-witch, half-mortal.
Chief creative officer for Archie Comics, Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, will handle the writing. He will also be the executive producer. Director Toland Krieger, who also worked on several episodes of “Riverdale”, will take the helm and also exclusively produce the series.
