Our man in Hollywood, Inquirer Entertainment columnist Ruben V. Nepales, will be featured in the new GMA 7 program, “The Global Filipino.”

As the title suggests, the show will shine a spotlight on countrymen who are “international influencers,” who have become “globally competitive and relevant,” according to a network announcement.

Nepales, who will be in the episode airing on Aug. 6 at 12:01 a.m., is the Inquirer’s Los Angeles-based correspondent. He has won in the LA Press Club-presented Annual Southern California Journalism Awards, for entertainment stories written for his column, Only IN Hollywood, which appears thrice a week in the newspaper’s print and online versions.

He is also the first Filipino member and first Filipino board chair of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the annual Golden Globe Awards.

“The Global Filipino,” meanwhile, is produced by Team MMPI, the crew behind high-profile productions such as the National Geographic documentary, “Inside Malacañang,” which was nominated for an Emmy; the film “Dance of the Steel Bars,” starring Dingdong Dantes; and the Catholic Mass Media Awards-cited environmental documentary, “2 Degrees: Panahon Na.”

The show is directed by Marnie Manicad and codirected by Charmaine Salvador and Van Bomediano.

According to Nepales, “[Marnie] and her crew went all the way to LA to shoot my segment, and we spent almost a day filming. They interviewed other Pinoys, as well.”

The series will feature TV host and businessman Stefano de Medici in its maiden episode, airing on July 30 at 12:01 a.m.
