WATCH: Death god Ryuk stars in new ‘Death Note’ trailer

Fans waiting for the release of the Netflix adaptation of the Japanese manga classic “Death Note” will finally get a better look of the “Death god” Ryuk in this new trailer.

The first sneak peak of the film mainly focused on protagonist Light Turner, played by Nat Wolff,  with only a few glimpses of the malevolent entity, whose silhouette could only be seen in the shadows.

This time around, Ryuk gets the spotlight as the death god goads Light into using the murderous notebook for the first time, to save a girl being bullied. While Ryuk lurks in the shadows, more of the death god’s features can be made out—especially its glowing eyes and sharp teeth.

Voiced by Willem Dafoe, Ryuk’s tone carries a menacing yet calculating tone, evident by his excitement upon influencing Light to kill another using the Death Note.

It’s also worth noting that Dafoe’s voice acting for Ryuk is a bit reminiscent of his work as the Green Goblin in the 2002 “Spider-Man” movie.

Meanwhile, “Death Note” is adapted from a manga series of the same name, written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The Netflix adaptation is directed by the man behind “The Blair Witch Project,”  Adam Wingard.

Catch “Death Note” exclusively on Netflix starting August 25. KI
