Will Smith was known to many ’90s viewers as the lead star of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Decades passed and as Smith aged, fans began to observe his peculiar resemblance to Philip Banks, Smith’s uncle on the hit sitcom.
In March, screenshots of his bungee-jumping adventure circulated on social media, prompting fans to conclude that the comedian had features similar to the character played by the late James Avery.
During a press conference for his upcoming Netflix flick “Bright,” as reported by Huffington Post, Smith reacted to the now-viral meme by reflecting on how technology, such as the Uncle Phil meme, could make him interact with fans even more.
“I don’t know if you saw, but a lot of fans isolated one moment where they said you reminded them of…” the reporter said before Smith, 48, fired with “Uncle Phil!”
“It is such a new world,” he added. “The shift is to ‘we’re best friends,’ and that’s like with the comments and with those pictures.”
Even with the passing of Avery in 2013, Smith and the whole cast of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reunited earlier this year.
