‘There’s beauty in distance’: John Lloyd explains why he and Sarah ‘just didn’t happen’
“I adore her.”
This was how Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz described pop princess Sarah Geronimo, when he was asked to define her in three words.
“AshLloyd” fans are once again rejoicing as the blockbuster tandem of Cruz and Geronimo are back together for this year’s highly-anticipated romantic-comedy movie, “Finally Found Someone”.
Given the success of the romantic movies they have made together, their legions of fans have all the while been hoping that their feel-good on-screen romance could translate into a real-life love story.
However, a different destiny has been drawn for the two, and nothing more than friendship ever bloomed.

Their bond further developed when they did the hit rom-com trilogy of “A Very Special Love” in 2008, followed by “You Changed My Life” in 2009 and “It Takes A Man and A Woman” in 2013.
Perhaps what makes their team up so loved by fans is its undeniable chemistry, whether in movies or in real life. Throughout the years that they have worked together, Cruz and Geronimo never shied away from admitting that they once had a “mutual admiration.”
However, as a norm in showbiz, celebrities work with different actors all the time. As they both progressed in their careers, inevitable professional separation affected what could have a been a budding relationship. And during these gap years, they simply became “strangers.”
“In the past years na hindi kami nagkatrabaho (when we weren’t working together), it has always been like that,” explained Cruz. “Ga’nun lang kami nag-adapt sa aming mga buhay (that’s basically how we adapted in our lives). There’s beauty in distance.”
To this day, many are still left with the question as to why they never got there. But to Cruz, the reason is simple.
“Pwede ko sabihin (I can say), it just didn’t happen? Timing? Choices namin individually? Madaming dahilan (there are many reasons),” he said at yesterday’s bloggers’ conference for the movie. He then joked, “Busy siya eh (she’s busy).”
Further, Cruz admitted that he does not see Geronimo as his TOTGA (the one that got away) and neither does Geronimo see Cruz in that light.
It looks like the fans therefore will have to make do with their movies together. Directed by Theodore Boborol, “Finally Found Someone” hits theaters nationwide starting July 26. Clarizel Abanilla/JB
