The director of “War for the Planet of the Apes”, Matt Reeves, has stepped in to replace Ben Affleck as director of an upcoming DC Extended Universe movie on the Dark Knight.

During an interview on “MTV’s Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the director mentioned that he dropped a script written by Ben Affleck, Chris Terrio and DC’s Geoff Johns in favor of creating a new story.

Reeves stated that he would no longer be working with Affleck’s material. He said, “No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck will stay on to play the role of Batman and that Reeves might do a noir take on the iconic super hero.

In the original script by Affleck, the villain Deathstroke was set to make an appearance. However, Reeves did not mention on the MTV podcast if the said character will still be in his new script. Alfred Bayle/JB
