It was not too long ago when Kapamilya singer-actress Angeline Quinto shared the stage with internationally-acclaimed singer Charice Pempengco, now known as Jake Zyrus.

Through a recent Instagram post, Quinto shared how she misses watching the powerhouse performances of Pempengco, especially when she belted out the most difficult songs.

Bigla ko namang namiss si Charice Pempengco na lagi kong pinapanood noon halos lahat ng matataas na kanta niya, nabibigyan lahat ng sarili niyang version.”

(I suddenly miss Charice Pempengco, who I always used to watch. She had always given justice to the hardest songs, and she made them her own.)

Quinto also recounted the time when she used to compete with Pempengco, and the controversial singer always won.

Bata pa lang ako tuwing nakakasabay ko sya sa mga amateur singing contest alam mo nang siya ang first place dahil nga ang galing.”

(I was very young then when I got to compete with her in amateur singing contests. She always won first place because she’s really good.)

Quinto and Pempengco are both known for their high vocal ranges. Pempengco attained international success because of her powerful renditions of songs by the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion. She has recently bid goodbye to her identity as Charice and re-introduced herself to the world as Jake Zyrus.

Zyrus admitted to having his breasts removed. He has also stated that he has been taking testosterone shots to further enhance his masculinity. The physical transformation he has undergone affected his voice. Proving this was a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, where the singer’s voice obviously cracked as he belted out the higher parts of Justin Bieber’s song “Despacito”. Yet, as Jake said in the interview, “This is the only time na masaya ako pag pumipiyok ako.” (This is the only time I am happy when my voice cracks.) JB
